Q&A with our Senior Associate, Laura Lloyd

Laura Lloyd joined Tree Law as a Senior Associate in July 2024.  We asked her a few questions about what it’s like working for Tree Law and life in general.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I am a mum of two and I live and work in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. I have lived here on and off since I was thirteen and although I couldn’t wait to escape and see the wider world when I was growing up I do love where I live now. When I am not running around between after school activities, I enjoy walking, occasionally running, going to the gym and reading.

What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

I decided to pursue a career in law when I was 14. The inspiration was a combination of my Dad’s career and interest in all things legal and dare I say my love for a certain 90’s legal TV show. I did my first work experience in a local solicitor’s office in my 4th year of high school (year 10) and didn’t look back.

Do you have a legal specialty or an area of law you’re most passionate about?

I spent the first half of my career working for a large international law firm dealing with subrogated insurance claims. The second half has been spent doing residential conveyancing work. I’ve enjoyed both specialisms but I do enjoy the variety of work that comes with working for insurer clients.

What’s one accomplishment in your career so far that you’re particularly proud of?

Qualifying as a solicitor. It wasn’t a straightforward road to qualification for me and so receiving confirmation that I had done it definitely felt like a huge achievement.

What excites you most about working at a start-up law firm?

I love the conversations that we have about growing the business and that I have the opportunity to be involved in bringing Sarah’s vision into a reality. I am looking forward to seeing the business continue to grow and succeed.

How do you approach challenges or unfamiliar legal territory?

Challenges, either personal or professional, have to be met head on. If I am unsure of what I am dealing with I will take the time to research and learn about it. Although it may be time consuming initially, it is time well spent in the long run.

What are your short-term professional goals here at Tree Law?

My short term goal would be to help grow the business locally and hopefully to open the Brecon Branch (pardon the pun!) office.

What does a perfect day look like for you?

A perfect day for me involves spending time with my family, we are all so busy and often like ships passing in the night so when we have a day together I try to make the most of it.
