Lance Daep is a law student at Cardiff University, currently in his second year of his LLB and on track for a first-class degree. As a second-generation migrant, he is driven by a strong sense of fairness and equality, values that shape both his approach to the law and his ambitions within it.

Lance combines academic ability with genuine commercial awareness, following sources such as Littlelaw and the FT Daily News Briefing and engaging actively with law fairs and university sessions. He reads widely beyond the syllabus, from Professor Mark Elliott’s Public Law for Everyone to The Secret Barrister, Trials of the State and Law in a Time of Crisis, building a holistic view of the legal system and the debates shaping it.

He has already gained varied practical exposure. A pro bono placement with Hugh James on NHS Continuing Healthcare work allowed him to assist on real cases, draft correspondence, review medical records and develop his advocacy through a mock Independent Review Panel. A summer placement at Morgan LaRoche gave him insight into how a regional firm operates across its Swansea and Carmarthen offices, while virtual simulations with Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer and White & Case sharpened his skills in dispute resolution, legal research and banking and finance.

Resilient under pressure and well used to demanding environments, Lance balances his studies with part-time coaching and a welfare role within Cardiff University Football Club, where he is a trusted point of contact for player wellbeing. Colleagues and peers describe him as dedicated, conscientious and quietly curious about how the world works around him.
