We’re Finalists! Tree Law Recognised for Sustainability at the Legal News Awards 2025

We’re thrilled to announce that Tree Law has been selected as a finalist in the Sustainability Award of the Year category at the Legal News Awards 2025!

Being shortlisted for this award is a huge moment for us. Since launching in 2021, Tree Law has been on a mission to change the way tree-related legal issues are approached — with the environment and the tree at the heart of everything we do.

Founded by our CEO, Sarah Dodd – the Tree Hugging Lawyer, Tree Law is proud to be the UK’s only law firm dedicated solely to tree law. We’ve set out not only to provide expert legal advice, but to challenge industry norms and embed sustainability in every branch of our practice.

Why This Recognition Matters

This nomination reflects our genuine commitment to climate-conscious legal solutions. Whether we’re calculating the carbon impact of felling a tree, encouraging early mediation to reduce litigation emissions, or hosting low-carbon industry events — every decision we make is weighed against its environmental impact.

Highlights of our sustainability journey so far:

🌳 Launched the Tree Law Subsidence Calculator®️ – a first-of-its-kind tool helping the insurance and legal sectors understand the carbon footprint of different solutions in tree damage cases.

♻️ Carbon foot printing our legal cases and events – from claims to conferences, we help our clients (and industry peers) see the impact of their choices.

🏡 Based in the sustainable Goodsheds community in Barry – our office is constructed from reused shipping containers and operates on a paperless, low-waste model.

🚆 Prioritising low-carbon travel and accommodation – reflecting our belief that how we work matters as much as what we do.

💬 Providing free public education through Tree Law TV – our YouTube channel helps individuals navigate tree disputes without unnecessary legal intervention.

And we’re just getting started.

Looking Ahead 🌍

From collaborating with wildfire resilience groups to exploring how our carbon calculator could apply to other climate-impacted disputes, our focus is on continuous innovation and advocacy. Being based in Wales, the ethos of “thinking for future generations” runs through everything we do.

To be recognised as a finalist among the best in the legal industry for our sustainability work is incredibly meaningful — not just for us, but for the message it sends about the future of law and its role in addressing the climate crisis.

We’re grateful to our clients, collaborators, and community — and we’ll continue to strive for legal solutions that protect both people and the planet.

Thank you to Legal News Awards 2025 for this honour.

Now let’s go hug some more trees (and win this thing) 🌳🌍✨
