Type: Full-Time, Office-Based
Salary: £65,000+ DOE
As Principal Associate, you will work closely with the Founder and Managing Partner and will play a key role in the continued growth of the firm.
You will be responsible for managing your own caseload, supervising more junior members of the team, supporting client relationships and contributing to the development of Tree Law’s specialist services.
This role would suit someone who enjoys technical legal work, client contact, problem-solving and being part of a growing business where ideas, initiative and leadership are valued.
Key responsibilities
Your role will include:
- Managing a varied caseload of specialist tree-related legal matters.
- Advising private clients, insurers, local authorities, housing associations, landowners and other organisations.
- Providing clear, practical and commercially sensible advice.
- Supervising and supporting junior lawyers and paralegals.
- Reviewing work and helping maintain high technical standards across the team.
- Supporting the development of systems, precedents and processes as the firm grows.
- Building trusted relationships with clients and referrers.
- Contributing to business development, training, articles, talks and thought leadership.
- Working collaboratively with the Founder, Managing Partner and wider team.
- Helping Tree Law continue to grow as the leading specialist firm in its field.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- A qualified solicitor with strong post-qualification experience.
- Confident managing litigation, disputes, property-related matters, insurance work or another relevant area of law.
- Technically strong and able to get to grips with niche areas quickly.
- Calm, pragmatic and solutions-focused.
- Comfortable supervising junior team members.
- Able to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
- A clear communicator, both in writing and with clients.
- Commercially aware and interested in the growth of the firm.
- Comfortable working in a specialist, entrepreneurial environment.
- Interested in trees, property, land, environmental issues or the built environment.
Experience in tree law is not required. Experience in any of the following would be helpful: property litigation, insurance litigation, professional negligence, construction, planning, environmental law, local authority work, housing association work, nuisance, boundary disputes or subsidence claims.
What we offer
We offer:
- A senior role in a genuinely specialist and growing law firm.
- The opportunity to work on unusual, interesting and nationally relevant matters.
- Close working with an experienced founder and leadership team.
- A supportive, values-led working environment.
- Real scope to shape the future of the firm.
- Opportunities for profile-building, writing, training and speaking.
- A varied client base across the UK.
- Office-based working from our Barry office, with some flexibility by agreement.
- A role with progression potential as the firm continues to grow.
